Early life - Unfortunately, Nic doesn't remember much of his early life - not for lack of trying, of course. But he quite literally cannot remember anything substantial about his life prior to being taken in by his adoptive parents (the Lis). This was due to a memory/power block that his father had placed on him in order to protect Nic by keeping him hidden from any parties that may try to kill him (or worse). Growing up, he only thought he was an orphan due to his abilities - that his parents had given him to the mages to give him the opportunity to grow and flourish. He eventually ends up going to (mage college) when he's older, wanting to become more in tune with his abilities. This particular college was also backed by the Council - a semi-underground group that wanted to try and help keep the peace between the various factions of the supernatural/magical communities and the mundane world. It was during his time in school that he realizes his affinity for enchanting objects and deconstructing barriers.

Magekiller - After graduation, he's scouted out by the Council and eventually after some stupid hard training and honing of his abilities, he ends up getting a handler and figuring out more about his magic cancelling abilities - and gains the official Magekiller title after a few years. During his time with the Council, he ends up with a handler and even gets contracted out to help with a series of raids against the Black School, an underground mage college that once had noble intentions, but got in too deep with its fanaticism.

Nephilim - Shortly before getting contracted to work with Amadi and the others, he was working on a mission involving demons - and in a moment of desperation to try and keep himself alive, his powers were fully unsealed. While it did banish the demon and saved his life, it wasn't without physical and emotional stress. Nic started to research just what exactly he was becoming, and the weird dreams he would sometimes have (which were actually memories of his childhood that were finally resurfacing as a result of his powers being fully unsealed). A few months into his research, he met an individual by the name of Sandy, who he eventually found out was actually his father. After a painful reunion, the two parted on relatively civil terms.

Seemingly goofy and carefree at first glance, very pleasant and calming to be around for the most part, but much more observant than meets the eye. He does genuinely like people and wants to be around them, but also understands that there are some who do not care to know how to use their gifts for good. He wants to believe in the best of people, and tries to - to a certain extent - see if they can make something better of themselves, like he did in the past.

Part of why he is now a Magekiller for the Council is due to the fact that his own moral compass won't stand for it, and for the most part, his beliefs align with that of his superiors. It's why he ends up being more than okay with being contracted out to help Madsen and crew against the Black School, despite (eventually) finding out that one of his teammates is an incredibly powerful necromancer - because they can all agree that the School is disrupting the balance and corrupting young magic users that could otherwise be using their talents elsewhere, and that is much more important than dealing with someone who has the ability to raise the dead. Never mind that he understands Dusty's place as the Kali entails trying to keep the balance (and thirdly, because he's become quite attached to living, thank you very much).

Optimism is what he tries to practice in day-to-day life, but he also knows that there are moments where that optimism is misplaced - and that usually is within the guise of his "working face". Unlike the kind-hearted, affable man that most see outside of major missions, he's cold, closed-off, and emotionally distant, almost seeming emotionally dead - while that is the furthest thing from the truth. It's just a carefully-crafted mask that he's had to put on over the years in order to protect himself and those around him. There are moments when the mask slips, where there's hints that the cold-blooded Magekiller and the man that feeds stray dogs in his spare time are one and the same - a subconscious reaction to a situation, for example - but he tries to make sure that they are few and far between, generally distancing himself from those he works alongside, in an attempt to compartmentalize his life and make things less messy.

(Unfortunately, this gets a little tricky considering how tight-knit Madsen's squad generally is, and how they tend to drag each other out on outings every once in a while in order to get to know each other better - a remnant of when Madsen was leading the Alpha Squadron during the Rebellion and how she figured out how to try and increase team efficiency on the battlefield. Sometimes she even admits it works a little too well where certain parties are concerned.)

Even before awakening to his nephilim powers, Nic is a fairly accomplished mage in his own right.

His specialties are twofold - imbuing inanimate objects with power, and the construction and destruction of barriers. He's been able to integrate this into his work as the Magekiller fairly well, infusing his tools and protective gear with spells to enhance and perform a variety of tasks as well as being able to not only protect himself, but also break down the various protections that those who would harm others would try and imbue themselves with. Examples of this include weaving in protection spells on armor, infusing bullets with magical power in order to punch through barriers, and infusing weapons with abilities not granted to them on the outset to help make them more durable.

After the discovery of his heritage and the true identity of his father, Nic has been experimenting with his newfound abilities as a nephilim. These include enhanced physical prowess beyond what he thought he was originally capable of, the ability to heal quickly from wounds, and a surprisingly strong talent for healing. Considering that his father is an angel of song and healing, it isn't terribly surprising. But it was also through this that he started to understand a little bit more about himself. While Nic had always had a talent in singing, he now has the ability to literally use song as another tool in fortifying magic as well as healing others. It definitely comes in handy when he's trying to keep demons off his back, seeing as angel song can be used as a potent deterrent against the demonic.

Alongside the amplification in his magical and physical capabilities, Nic also has a pair of white wings. He usually doesn’t let them come out until he absolutely has to, but they also can possibly come out when he’s either in danger/dealing with powerful entities or … well. Extremely aroused. (You want wingkink, he’s your boy.)
